St. Thomas is host to over 2,000 weddings a year. Per capita, there isn’t another place on the planet that has more weddings. So that means that getting married in St. Thomas is an easy and quick process.
To make your marriage legal all you have to do is fill out a short application and mail it in with a $200 filing fee to the Virgin Islands Superior Court. The application and instructions are located at:
You should mail in the application at least 2 weeks prior to your arrival. And once you arrive in St. Thomas you will need to make a brief appearance at the courthouse to sign your paperwork in the presence of a clerk. It takes about 10 minutes and after you finish you walk out of the court with your marriage license.
After your ceremony your minister or officiant will file the paperwork for you and mail back certified copies.
One important note: you must dress appropriately when appearing at the courthouse. No tank tops or swim trunks allowed. If you have questions about the type of acceptable attire, please contact the court.
